We did a multi-day trip with Leprechaun Canyon the first day, Blarney the second, and a campout overnight. Plenty of rappels and down-climbing that our kids (ages 14 and 10) and the adults enjoyed. Kai was an awesome guide and prepared delicious meals for us the entire time we were out. Would definitely book another trip with Desert Highlights when in the Moab area!

Our experience was breathtaking, beautiful and with bountiful adrenaline surges. We had little to no canyoneering experience and while we both are usually adventure seeking, we truly had no preset expectations in our mind for what we may encounter beyond fun solitude in a new place far from the crowds. And this adventure did not disappoint…
Our guide was Jake and immediately we were stoked in the match. He is extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the experience. We learned as much or as little as we wanted. He knew the answers to every question we posed about safety and the canyons in the area as well as the history of the sport. He even pointed us to a documentary about the beginnings of Canyoneering- then called Gorging which did not disappoint! A guided experience was brand new for us and we were pleasantly surprised. It was different to have someone carry the majority of the load- but it gave us the opportunity to really be in the moment and enjoy every little nook and cranny we stepped through or descended down or climbed up and over.
We both would highly recommend getting out there overnight as it afforded us the chance to have a day getting comfortable and also for Jake to assess what he believed we were capable of undertaking before starting out on day two. It was an overall AWESOME couple of days in the greatest sense of the word. We constantly looked around and simply uttered, “WOW!” as we took in our surroundings. We absolutely would have booked three days if we had more time. It was an adventure back in time among some of the most awe inspiring and ancient rock formations we have ever encountered and we did not want to leave.
On top of the fact that each part of the descent was explained to us from the ropes and the anchoring systems to some wonderful input on proper techniques for stemming- we were really given the freedom to figure out what felt natural and comfortable for us to make our way through the canyons and that was more than we could have hoped for. When we needed extra assistance Jake was right there to hold a foot or to spot us on tricky parts or even when my mind got the better of me and I felt a bit uncertain. He was constantly aware of the situations lying before us and would give just enough of a glimpse into what lay ahead that we were prepared but no surprises were spoiled.
AND then there was the food. We are used to snacking on granola bars and fruit (which we were given) and usually that is where it ends on our backcountry adventures. We may end up with some dehydrated food out of a bag at the end of the day but not during this excursion. Jake had delicious and healthy wrap options for mid day picnics, fajitas with fixings at the end of the day and amazing percolated coffee in the morning to go with eggs and bacon! That blew our minds and definitely helped fuel our bodies.
All in all I wish we could add a bonus star as Jake went above and beyond. He was very accommodating in guiding us to pit toilets if wag bags are not your thing, he took us on a pre-dinner walk to a petroglyph site and included us on all the decision making for the entire course of the time out.
If you are waiting to pull the trigger on this- GO FOR IT!

Where do I even start? This company was top notch, start to finish. Our two-day private guided adventure was nothing short of spectacular! Jake was a wealth of knowledge, and great company as well. Safety always came first, but fun was a close second! We cowboy-camped in 20-degree weather, and Jake was always there with every bit of kit we could need to stay warm and comfortable, plus made some mean fajitas by headlamp so we could refuel after our strenuous first day. This was our first canyoneering experience, but it won’t be our last! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping create another lasting memory for our family.

Wow, what a great experience! We are a family of 5 with 3 teenagers aged 16, 14, and 12. We splurged and did the overnight canyoneering/camping experience. Our first day was spent in a true slot canyon in the Irish canyons, and the second day was in a wider canyon in the area named Hogwarts with larger rappels and grander views. It was awesome to experience both kinds of canyons. We have frequently “car camped” in our lives, so the overnight was perfect for us. They provided all of the tents, bedding, food, chairs, etc. We flew in from another state so it was awesome they had everything we needed. And, our campsite was unforgettable with expansive views of the desert and the nearby Henry Mountains. Our guide for the two days was Kai. She was AWESOME! She was great to have as a member of our family for two days. She took great care of us, made sure we felt safe (we certainly did), and her cooking was great. Lunch both days, dinner, and breakfast. So good. Folks, this company is awesome. The communication from the owner Melissa before the trip was spectacular. They only take private groups (no mixing people together) so you will always have personal service. This was one of our favorite family vacation highlights of all-time that we will not forget. Thanks to Kai and the whole Desert Highlights team for a great adventure.
